ESPN2, ESPNEWSS, ESPNU and ESPN HD subscribers in India are getting a big boost on Thursday.
ESPN has announced it is going to launch a streaming app for Indian football, the ESPN India app, with live match replays on its platforms.
The new app, which will be launched in India on November 1, is called “ESPN India Live,” and will provide a live streaming experience on its ESPN apps, ESPN TV and ESPNgo.
The app will also offer replays from the ESPN channels as well as other sports like cricket and cricket matches.
ESPN India Live is expected to launch in the coming months.
The app will be available on the following platforms: ESPN TV (in India), ESPNgo (in the US), ESPN TV App, ESPN App in India, ESPN app in other countries, ESPNgo app in India and the ESPN app on Apple TV, Roku, Apple TV devices and Google Chromecast.
“We are excited to announce our first app offering live, streaming video of Indian football games for the first time,” said Shashi Tharoor, president and CEO of ESPN International.
“We are pleased to be able to bring these new streaming apps to Indian fans in a way that offers our fans a more compelling and immersive experience.”
India’s cricket teams have been among the best in the world over the past decade, but the sport is facing a big challenge: the country has a population of only 3.5 billion people.
The number of Indian fans has fallen to less than half that of the United States and a record low of just 9.3 million in 2015.
